Cardiff Blues are saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Rhondda Schools rugby stalwart Bernard Jones OBE.
Jones, who established Just Rentals and Buy As You View, was instrumental in the Rhondda Schools Rugby Initiative - a production line of talent to both Cardiff Blues and Wales.
Seven of the current first team squad, and four of the senior academy, have progressed through the pathway largely thanks to Jones’ unwavering support.
Cardiff Blues chairman Peter Thomas said: “Bernard has been instrumental in his support of Cardiff Blues. The work he has done, particularly in the Rhondda valley and with Pontypridd, has been incredible.
“The development of the rugby officers, the pathways and the youth set-up there has been brilliant and his record speaks for itself with the numerous Dewer Shield titles.

“You only have to look at the Cardiff Blues squad to see the fruits of his labour and I’m sure that will be the case for generations to come.
“Bernard was an amazing business man, a great rugby friend and a man who would do anything for his community. He will be dearly missed and all of our thoughts are with his family at this time.”
Jones was a true community champion, also proving his time and resource to support the fight against cancer and kidney disease – following personal loss – and his great passion, brass bands.
The thoughts of everyone at Cardiff Blues are with the family and friends of Bernard Jones at this difficult time. His legacy will live on for years to come.
