Patchell return a big boost for Blues

16th August 2014

Dale McIntosh admitted the sight of fly half ace Rhys Patchell back in action was a huge boost for everyone connected with Cardiff Blues.

Patchell made his playing comeback following an eight month injury layoff as Blues lost out 24-17 to Exeter Chiefs in pre-season at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.

The 21-year-old – who last featured against Newport Gwent Dragons on New Year’s Day – played the opening 40 minutes.

And McIntosh insists the talented back will now only get better as he gets more game time.

“It was huge to see Patch back and I am really chuffed for him,” said McIntosh.

“His work ethic is phenomenal and although he wasn’t as fluent as we are used today that is only because he has been out for a long time.

“He showed some class and some nice touches. I just hope he has a run of games now.

“Patch is very versatile and, without wanting to give anything away, he could play in other positions too.

“It’s great to see him back on the pitch and it’s a big boost for the boys to have him there.”
