Lane pleased to sign off at CAP with win for the fans

First Team News | 9th May 2022

Owen Lane was delighted to sign off the home season at Cardiff Arms Park with a bonus point win over Zebre Parma on Friday.

The Blue and Blacks wing crossed for a brace of tries against the Italian outfit, taking his personal tally to double figures for the season.

After recent frustrating results, Lane was pleased to finish at the Arms Park on a high but insists there is still room for improvement as focus now turns to away games against Dragons and Benetton Rugby.

The Wales international said:“It’s been frustrating as a player group and I can only assume it's been frustrating as a fanbase as well, but we knew we needed to start.

“We’ve started quite well in the last few weeks, but we just haven't been able to maintain that and the results have shown that. So we just talked about putting in a full 80-minute performance.

“We knew that if we kept performing at that level then Zebre would eventually break down and it probably happened a bit quicker than we thought it would.

“So we had a good performance first-half and we were some points up but the second half was a bit frustrating. We probably got a bit loose and we forced the game.

“But at the end of day we got the result, and it was nice to put on a performance for the home crowd for the last one this season.

“We performed well first half. We probably did the basics well and we played in the right areas but in the second half, we probably got a bit loose so that's something we can look at.

“But the result is the most important thing and we got the result in the end of the day.

“It was windy, it was raining and the ball was like a bar of soap. We got a bit of stick off TR because at the contact area we got a bit loose.  That's something we're trying to work on in the last few weeks and it probably wasn't good enough in the second-half but we’ll work on it going forward.

“There’s been lots of ups and downs, both as a team and probably individually. I'm just trying to try and find a run of form for these last few games of season and to get a couple more tries.”

After recent derby defeats to Scarlets and Ospreys, Lane sees Friday’s trip to Rodney Parade as the perfect opportunity to make a statement before the end of the season.

“We have the Dragons and a big derby next week so hopefully we can get a result there and finish the season on the high as a group.

“We probably owed the crowd a good performance. The last three home games haven't been up to scratch, we haven't gone well and we haven't got the results, so it's nice to finish iff with a win and and hopefully will see them all next year.”
