Kirby Myhill commits future to Cardiff Blues

First Team News | 17th May 2019

Kirby Myhill is the third player to agree a new deal to remain at Cardiff Arms Park on #FrontRowFriday.

Following announcements that props Rhys Gill and Brad Thyer have signed new contracts at Cardiff Blues, so too has dynamic hooker Myhill.

The former Wales U20s captain has made 51 appearances since arriving at Wales’ Capital Region in 2016.

Injuries have disrupted his progress this season, but he is now relishing the opportunity to fight for a first team place after pledging his long-term future.

Myhill said: “I’m obviously really happy to be staying at the Blues for another few years and I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far.

“Things haven’t progressed as well as I would have hoped but I am determined to make the most of this opportunity. I’m now looking forward to the start of pre-season, putting the necessary hard work in and hopefully challenging for that first-choice hooker position.

“There is plenty of competition in the position and that will only drive us all to continually improve as players.”

Myhill will compete with the likes of Kristian Dacey, Ethan Lewis and Liam Belcher for a spot at hooker next season and while he has been frustrated this season, head coach John Mulvihill expects the 27-year-old to kick on.

“He added: “Kirby is one of our best players on both sides of the ball and is determined to play a big role next season.

“He’s a really dynamic hooker, who brings physical presence and energy, and suits the way we want to play the game at Cardiff Blues.”
