The Cardiff Blues today welcomed rugby superstar Jonah Lomu to Wales as he touched down in Cardiff International Airport
bmibaby, the Cardiff Blues principal partner were in charge of flying the giant Kiwi winger in to Wales on the final leg of his twelve thousand mile journey.
Robert Norster, the Cardiff Blues Chief Executive along with Cardiff Arms Park hero and Blues director Gareth Edwards, were there to greet Jonah and his wife Fiona at the airport. The All Black legend and leading World Cup try-scorer, is eligible to play from December 1st. The Blues have two home games that month, versus Calvisano in the Heineken Cup on Saturday the 17th of December and the Newport Gwent Dragons on Tuesday the 27th of December.
"I am very excited to be here in Wales and look forward to putting on the Cardiff Blues shirt," said Lomu today. "For me, I want to get into training and make the squad. There's always the challenge of making the 22 and, my focus is on that and getting regular game time. I'm also really keen to be part of a team again, and contribute to some great results for the Cardiff Blues. It's been a long road back to health and fitness for me. I am just glad to have been given the opportunity to do what I love most."
Robert Norster added We are delighted to have Jonah and Fiona over and will do all we can to make them feel welcome over the next seven months. Having a player of Jonahs quality would strengthen any squad and its also great for the supporters who have been looking forward to his arrival since we announced his signing.
