Jenkins makes long awaited return to international stage as Wales host world champions

International | 4th November 2021

Ellis Jenkins will make a long awaited return to the international stage as Wales host world champions, South Africa, at Principality Stadium on Saturday.

The Cardiff product last featured in the red jersey in November 2018, producing a man of the match performance against Springboks before suffering a serious knee injury in the final moments, which would keep him on the sidelines for two years.

Back row Jenkins slots into the number six jersey, replacing the injured Ross Moriarty, as Wayne Pivac makes six changes to the side that were defeated by New Zealand last week.

Another change to the starting pack sees Rhys Carré, who impressed from the bench against the All Blacks, donning the number one shirt, swapping places with British & Irish Lions prop, Wyn Jones.

Scrum half Tomos Williams and wing Josh Adams both retain their places in the backline, while Seb Davies remains on the bench for the visit of the reigning  world champions.

Elsewhere, Saracens' Nick Tompkins is introduced at centre, linking up with captain Jonathan Davies, while former Cardiff age grade player, Louis Rees-Zammit returns to the wing.

Dan Biggar and Will Rowlands are the other changes to the starting line-up.

Another product of the Cardiff pathway, Will Griff John, is set for his debut from the bench, with uncapped Ulster hooker Bradley Roberts, Dragons' Ben Carter and full back Liam Williams also introduced to the matchday squad.

Wales: Johnny McNicholl; Louis Rees-Zammit, Jonathan Davies, Nick Tompkins, Josh Adams; Dan Biggar, Tomos Williams; Rhys Carré, Ryan Elias, Tomas Francis, Will Rowlands, Adam Beard, Ellis Jenkins, Taine Basham, Aaron Wainwright

Replacements: Bradley Roberts, Wyn Jones, Will Griff John, Ben Carter, Seb Davies, Gareth Davies, Gareth Anscombe, Liam Williams
