As Cardiff head into the new season, centre Ben Thomas believes making small adjustments on performances from last year could be the key to securing more wins this campaign.
The Blue and Blacks fell agonisingly short in several nail-biting games last year and ended the season with 10 losing points and with some tweaks, he thinks Cardiff can begin to climb the BKT United Rugby Championship table.
“I think we probably finished relatively strongly last year,” said Thomas. “I know results probably don't show that, but if you look at our performances, we are starting to piece things together a bit.
“It’s about picking up where we left off and making a few adjustments as we've been going along."
At 25-years-of-age and a key player amongst the backs, where he is able to cover several different positions, Thomas is playing an important role in how the side attacks.
“Probably being a bit older now it’s slightly different, especially with a young group. It's a bit easier to take on that more, not senior role, but position to guide the team throughout the week and then through the game.
“The way we play at Cardiff lends itself well to me stepping in at first receiver a bit or even second receiver, having a say in the plays we run or the way we're attacking or managing the field.
“I suppose the skill set is quite transferable, it's sort of just different number on the back.”
Thomas has linked up with fly-half and alumni Callum Sheedy who joined the Club in the summer. He spoke highly of Sheedy’s attributes and thinks he will be an integral signing this season.
“Me and Sheedy went to the same school, so it's been nice having him back,” added Thomas.
“I haven't really seen Sheedy since probably my first Wales cap when he was playing ten, so it's been good to catch up.
“He's very good for us to have in the squad. I think he's a very good leader and he talks very well, he knows the game well.
“I think that's the additions we were looking to have to the squad this year and it's proven to be pretty useful.”
