Half century will be an honour for Lewis

Dillon Lewis says it will be an honour to hit a half century of appearances for Cardiff Blues.

The Welsh international is set to reach his latest milestone at Judgement Day, where his home region take on Ospreys in a bid to secure a spot in the Heineken Champions Cup qualification play-off.

Lewis admits it will be a special occasion on a personal level, and is looking forward to returning to the national stadium.

“It’s taken me five years to reach the 50, but I’m delighted to have the chance to potentially hit the milestone on Judgement Day,” said the prop.

“This is a game that everyone wants to be a part of each season, and it will be special to reach a half century of appearances for my home region at Principality Stadium.

“I’ve come through the academy and managed to break into the first team squad, but in those early days you can only dream of playing so many games for the region.

“It’s another opportunity to play at the Principality Stadium, which is a superb venue, so it’s an exciting place around camp at the moment.

“This will be my third time playing at Judgement Day and this is a fixture that everyone looks forward to in the calendar each year.”

Lewis says the Cardiff Blues squad are fired up ahead of the winner-takes-all clash on the final day of the Guinness PRO14 regular season.

He added: “All week the chat has been about what’s on the line for both teams, especially ourselves.

“There’s that play-off spot up for grabs which gives us another chance to play in the Heineken Champions Cup next season, and it’s made Judgement Day even bigger for us.

“It’s a special place to play when it’s full and it’s going to be another exciting occasion on Saturday.

“Judgement Day makes it a bit of a different experience. We love playing down the Arms Park in front of the home crowd, but to play in the national stadium in front of more than 50,000 people is really good.

“It’s a good day-out all round for everyone involved from the supporters to the players and it will be a great experience to come here and play in that atmosphere.

“We always come out with the intention of playing open, attacking rugby so I’m sure we won’t disappoint this week.”
