Friends Reunited for Rees on Judgement Day

16th April 2014

Hooker Matthew Rees is relishing the 'big occasion' of Judgement Day II - and the chance to tackle his former team Scarlets in the regional double header at the Millennium Stadium.

Rees moved to the Arms Park from Parc y Scarlets last summer and the former Scarlets captain admits the two games against his old club were the first he looked for on the fixture list.

The front row will get that chance at the home of Welsh rugby on Easter Sunday (kick-off 2pm).

Rees said: “It’s a weird one because we face Scarlets twice in a matter of weeks. But when I came to Blues it was definitely the first fixture I looked for.

“I targeted getting back for the end of the season; that was a challenge and goal for me and this will be some game for us as a team and me personally.

“Having two games against the Scarlets would be special so to be back involved and play a part in them would be a great experience.

“I like the double header format, with Dragons and Ospreys playing after us, and it’s over the Easter weekend so it will be a big occasion,” he added. “Hopefully in years to come we will see a double header to start the season off too.

“It’s a great atmosphere and not many players get the luxury of playing at the Millennium Stadium. It’s a great day all round.”
