Evans pleased to see return of 'Cardiff Blues way'

Jarrod Evans was pleased to see his side return to the ‘Cardiff Blues way’ during Saturday’s Guinness PRO14 win over Toyota Cheetahs.

The playmaker was named Guinness Man of the Match as Wales’ Capital Region picked up their first home win of the campaign following tries from Aled Summerhill and Josh Turnbull.

The Welsh international was pleased to see his side put their attacking stamp on the game, and believes their confidence was key to the victory.

“We played the Cardiff Blues way a little bit more. That’s probably what we’ve been lacking in the first four or five games of the season,” said Evans.

“We played with freedom and went out there to be dominant, rather than just trying to stick into game.

“We got the ball to where we wanted to, and what we previewed for the Cheetahs is what we delivered.

“We didn’t get affected too much by the weather, and I thought we managed conditions and found a balance between playing and not over-playing quite well.

“It was nice to see the boys with smiles on their faces and we were confident and that was the difference.

“We came out with an intention to play, and that’s what we did. We took the game to Cheetahs and worked to the edges which was important.

“You see a lot of good attacks these days, and in the World Cup as well, with teams playing that double-playmaker role.

“I’m just happy to get the win.”

The outside half agonisingly missed out on a spot in Wales’ 31-man squad for the recent Rugby World Cup in Japan.

However, Evans insists he’s put his disappointment behind him and remains fully focused on his role with his home region.

The playmaker added: “It probably did take its toll, because I thought I was going pretty well. But now that all the boys are back from Japan, it’s all parked and I just want to crack on with the reason.

“I have to remember why and how I got the chance to go to Japan in the first place, and that was through playing for my club. My form here is vital.

“First and foremost it’s about my club form and getting everything I do here right. Hopefully then whatever happens, happens.

“Getting the Blues going forward is my priority.

“It’s not always going to be easy, because as you become a bit more of a figure, teams will start to target you a little bit more.

“It’s about picking those moments when to go and when not to. It’s the same for a lot of the players, we’ve got big targets on our heads.

“It’s how we get those boys into one-on-ones on the field in the best positions.”
