Cardiff Blues are delighted to announce that a rugby education programme will be run out of BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park from this September.
The region has announced exciting plans to roll out a unique education programme, in conjunction with TVS Education, aimed at post 16 studies.
Courses will be running out of Tonyrefail (Rhondda Valley), Aberdare Community School (Cynon Valley) and Crickhowell (South Powys) after they all signed up as Exclusive Official Partner Schools.
And now students, aged between 16 and 18, from the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan area will be able to study at the home of Cardiff Blues with a new BTEC course operating from the iconic city centre venue.
A new classroom will be based at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park for lectures while practical lessons will take place on the state-of-the-art artificial pitch that is also home to Cardiff Blues.
The Cardiff Blues Rugby Education Course entails a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport; equivalent to 3 A-Levels, and a Technical Rugby Programme; eight hours a week of practical rugby coaching delivery, coach education and mentoring, delivered by Cardiff Blues.
The course also gives students an exclusive opportunity to gain valuable work based learning experience through the Cardiff Blues Community Department. All of this while gaining qualifications for University.
The course will provide many positive opportunities and coaching and development pathways for students to ensure maximum engagement and achievement.
We aim to use the Cardiff Blues brand to engage, retain and ultimately progress students involved in the programme.
The course offers the opportunity for students to gain a career in the sporting industry, whether that be as a Coach, Sports Therapist, or Sports Development Officer.
Nadine Griffiths, Blues Community Manager, said: "We’ve been delighted with the interest in the programme across the Rhondda Valley, Cynon Valley and South Powys and now we’re delighted to announce we will run it out of BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park for students across the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan areas.
“Lessons will be at the historic home of Cardiff Blues while practical sessions will take place on the artificial pitch – it makes it a truly unique course and a wonderful opportunity for students to study, train and play at a world class venue.
“There are a number of different options open for students across our region, but I would stress that this is the only official Cardiff Blues education course and we look forward to next year’s intake joining us at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.”
