The recent round of district fixtures has seen teams from Cardiff and Vale, plus Pontypridd and Rhondda in action, match reports for these games are below.
Cardiff and Vale District 31 - Bridgend District 0
On a chilly but dry winters morning at LLandaff RFC, Cardiff and Vale under 12s took the field to face Bridgend for their third district representative game. Cardiff and Vale scored their first try from a line out and drive by Joseph Popple, the ruck ball was run wide for Alex Fenton to score in the corner. After 11 minutes the Cardiff pack won a good ruck and run the ball to then backs for Gethin Davies to score near the posts, Dale Morris converted. The final score of the half came from Ivan Roberts who scored under the posts, converted by Lloyd James.
The second half saw William Singer make a superb tackle and he ripped the ball off the attacker, this was run quickly wide to Gethin Davies to throw a good dummy and score in the corner. Another try soon followed when a superb run by Alex Fenton took the ball into the Bridgend 22 where Alex offloaded a pop pass to supporting centre Jack Phillips to score under the posts, converted by Lloyd James to bring the final score Cardiff and Vale 31 Bridgend 0.
Pontypridd District 5 - Rhondda District 5
Pontypridd District Under 12's played their Rhondda counterparts on Friday 13th January at Llanharan RFC, in a tense nail bitter of a match. Starting at a frantic pace it was obvious that the game was going to be one of few chances and could be won or lost through one mistake.
Rhondda were camped on their own try line for almost the whole of the first period, but managed to keep Pontypridd at bay right up until the final seconds of the half when Pontypridd's pack finally managed to pile over the Rhondda try line for scrum half Joel Raikes (Pontypridd RFC) to pick up and force his way over.
With the game drawing to a replacement scrum half for Rhondda Tom Williams (Treorchy RFC) picked up from the base of the scrum and scooted down the blind side catching the Ponty team off guard. Expertly drawing the winger he fed Dale Hughes a Pontypridd RFC player himself and with cover coming across Dale backed himself and beat the despairing dive of Max Watkins to dive in at the corner, a lesson in finishing for any winger
