Tinus de Beer was proud of Cardiff’s efforts as they battled to claim a losing bonus-point against Glasgow Warriors.
It looked as though the Blue and Blacks could upset the odds as they went into half-time with a 13-point lead at Scotstoun - thanks to the boot of de Beer and a Ben Thomas try.
But with the wind now at their backs, Glasgow returned with renewed vigour and edged back in front and it was a lead they refused to surrender.
It was the first occasion, an away team had salvaged anything from a trip to Glasgow in the BKT United Rugby Championship and while disappointed with the defeat, the fly-half was pleased with the spirited effort.
“We came out here with a job to do and that was to stop them physically. We knew when they get going they are a tough team to beat,” said de Beer.
“So I think the first-half was probably one of our best in terms of keeping them out and system-wise as well.
“Credit to the forwards they’ve worked hard and we were 13-points up at half-time.
“Looking back at the second-half, against the wind, you only had to see how Glasgow played in the first-half. It’s extremely difficult to play against the wind like that.
“So that cost us and just making silly little errors in our own half, which ultimately contributed to them winning the game.
“It was a massive effort from the boys though. There wasn’t one point where we were completely out of it. We stuck right in it for the full 80 so I am massively proud of the team. The first time a team has taken a losing bonus-point from Glasgow this season.”
Cardiff travel to Munster next weekend and de Beer is looking forward to another significant challenge on the road.
He added: “We’re travelling on the road again and we can take all these positives from this experience into next week.
“It’s another tough match, take nothing away from Munster they are a top side but the boys will get stuck into next week and then onto Munster.”
