Director of Rugby Phil Davies praised a 'magnificent' performance from his Cardiff Blues as they defeated Glasgow Warriors 29-20 in a thrilling Heineken Cup clash at the Arms Park.
A first half try from man-of-the-match Rhys Patchell gave Blues a lead they would never lose, despite a brave comeback from the high-flying Scots.
Wing Alex Cuthbert tore over for a second score to secure the victory on home soil as Blues moved to the top of Pool 2.
And Davies was delighted as Blues backed up the win over Toulon and ensured their European bid remained on course.
“From one to 15, I thought we were magnificent. It’s a big win for us because of the way we played. Glasgow are a tough side so it is pleasing to put together such a comprehensive performance together,” he said.
“Tonight’s game was great credit to the players. We’ve worked hard the last four or five weeks, since the autumn series started, and we are seeing the fruits of that labour now.
“It is great credit to the boys who came in, but also those that have been playing week in and week out.
“To play like we did for the majority of the first half and the desire we showed in the second half, although we were scruffy at times, was fantastic. It keeps us in the group which is terrific.
“We are trying to develop a squad that can play whatever the changes,” he added. “We have a system that will hopefully deliver good results for us. That is what tonight is all about, the desire to deliver what we have talked about.
“I’m not comparing it to Toulon. But it is a step forward for us and it keeps us in the group. We have a tough, tough game next week, but the pleasing think is they (Glasgow) didn’t get a bonus point.
“We have had two games in Europe at home against two quality teams and have acquitted ourselves well and got two good results. But there is a long way to go yet.”
