Consistency the key as Dacey calls for 80 minute performance

First Team News | 28th February 2020

Kristian Dacey has called for a complete performance as he returns to the Cardiff Blues starting line-up for the first time since October.

The Wales hooker underwent shoulder surgery in the summer and suffered a foot injury just games into his return, which also required surgery.

He has come off the bench in the last two weeks as the Blues fell to defeat in Connacht and then responded against Benetton Rugby.

And he is under no illusions that his side need to discover a level of consistency if they are to succeed this season, beginning with tonight’s Conference B clash with Edinburgh.

Dacey said: “It’s been a frustrating few months, having the shoulder operation in the summer and then an operation on the foot. So it’s been a frustrating start to the season but it’s nice to get back out there now and hopefully I can put some decent performances out there to help the squad.

“As players, we are disappointed, especially with that Connacht game. We know ourselves, we are better than we showed over there but then we followed that up with the first half against Treviso.

“We had a game plan but we didn’t execute in the first-half. Luckily we had a chat at half-time and we went out and executed a few things and plays we have been working on and luckily they came off. We turned that game around and got the five points.

“It's just like any other team, the best teams in the world have consistency. Week in, week out they put in performances and that’s something we strive to do.”

While Cardiff Blues have triumphed on their last four visits to Edinburgh, the Scottish outfit recorded a victory the Arms Park this season and sit at the top of Conference B.

Dacey is well aware of the formidable threat Richard Cockerill’s men pose but he knows it is also an opportunity to make strides in the conference table.

He added: “Edinburgh are a very well drilled side, they are set-piece heavy with some very dangerous backs, especially the wing and 10 but for us it’s about putting in a performance. We have been there the last few years and had some big wins. If we can go up there with a decent game-plan, produce a performance and hopefully we’ll come out on the right side of the result.

“When we play teams in our conference they are always big games and an opportunity to work our way up the table.”
