Blues stars Tom Shanklin, Dean Dewdney and Gareth Williams have been helping Cardiff school children get fit for fun this week.
Hosted by Cardiff Blues, the two-day Fit for Fun initiative at Channel View Leisure Centre and Glamorgan Wanderers RFC was organised in partnership with Business in the Communitys Cares programme, a business-led employee volunteering programme and Sport.Cardiff.
Fit for Fun encourages Year 6 children to become more active and adopt a healthier lifestyle and has proven to be a great success with more than 300 Cardiff school children gaining an insight into the healthy diet and exercise regimes of Wales' top rugby players.
The initiative builds on the superb work undertaken by development officers and community coaches with clubs and schools across the region as part of the Future Blues rugby development programme.
Richard Hodges, Future Blues Community Development Officer said: Initiatives like Fit for Fun are a great way of not only educating children about the importance of regular exercise and healthy eating, but also giving teachers tips to take back into their schools to encourage other children to get more involved.
Volunteers from a number of large Cardiff based employers such as Black Horse also helped with the event, plus refreshments were kindly provided by Coca Cola and Sainsburys. The participating businesses also arranged for each school to receive kit bags full of sports equipment.
Tracy Rees, Business Development Manager of Business in the Community in Wales, said: The support we have received from the Cardiff Blues, Sport.Cardiff and local business has been fantastic and we hope the children have really benefited from the initiative.
