Cardiff Rugby have added further strength to their squad ahead of the 2023-24 season with the signing of Matthew Aubrey and Max Clark.
Aubrey, who played on trial against the Scarlets and Ospreys, has signed for the Blue and Blacks and he is joined by Clark who has penned agreed a loan deal from the Dragons.
Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt was thrilled to add additional strength in depth to key positions within his playing group as the season approaches.
Both players boast a wealth of first team experience across both the URC and English Premiership, and Sherratt believes that will enhance the environment and competition for places.
He said: “We’re delighted to add further strength to our playing group with two, who boast quality, a good amount of experience and have the potential to improve.
“I coached Matthew at the Ospreys and he has very good basic skills and a great temperament for a scrum-half. He adds further depth and competition to our scrum-half ranks.
“In terms of Max, there is absolutely no doubt about his quality, having amassed almost 100 appearances at Bath. He played a good amount at the Dragons last season but is in a very competitive position and was keen to have more opportunity to play.
“He will get that for us and will bring experience and know how to what is still quite a young back line and most importantly he is a really good person and professional, who will add to our environment.
“As with our other signings they all have the potential to improve and a point to prove which I’m sure they will.”
Aubrey left the Ospreys at the end of last season, having amassed 30 appearances for the Swansea-based outfit. The 26-year-old previously came through the Ospreys’ pathway and represented Wales at Under-18s level.
Clark joined the Dragons ahead of last season, having been an ever present figure over 13 seasons for Bath.
The Welsh-qualified centre made 92 appearances for the West Country club and turned out 14 times for the Dragons last season, making an impression with his strong ball carrying ability.
Ben Burnell has also returned to train with the squad following the sad demise of Jersey Reds, who went into administration last week.
