Cardiff Rugby under-17 ring the changes for Arms Park clash

First Team News | 25th August 2021

Cardiff Rugby under-17s have made nine changes as they welcome Dragons Red to Cardiff Arms Park for the second match of their three-game series.

Chadd Matuyambizi’s side kicked off their campaign in impressive fashion last Wednesday, recording a 48-17 victory over Dragons Black at Ystrad Mynach.

With the matches designed to give players more taste of representative rugby due to the impact of the pandemic, there are a number of rotations in the starting XV for the home clash on Wednesday evening.

Tom Bowen and Dan Nzamba are introduced into the back three alongside Ben Geraghty, who retains his spot on the wing.

Gethin Jones and Ethan Rudyj continue their combination in midfield while playmaker Harri Wilde has a new half back partner in Dan Buffery.

Oscar Walker, Gavin Parry and Cam Tyler-Grocott form a new-look front row, with Fletcher Barry switching from number eight to lock, linking up with Kyle Harris.

The side is completed with the back row of Evan Prosser, Dylan Yarwood and Owen Conquer.

Looking ahead to the clash, Talent and Pathway Manager, Aled James, said: “The bar has been set from the performance last week so maintaining those standards should make for an exciting challenge for those boys introduced into the team this week.

“However, as always, there’s areas of the game we can work on and it’s been a good week of training in that sense.

“The boys are relishing this opportunity. After a tough year, they get to take to the field at Cardiff Arms Park in front of friends and families and that in itself is motivation for those going out there.

“This block hasn’t come without its challenges - from summer holidays to school and college games and of course, we continue to be vigilant against Covid-19. But it’s been a really proud achievement to be able to give these boys an opportunity to wear the Cardiff jersey over these three games.

“Hopefully they can use these games as a springboard ahead of the next under-18 block as well as fixtures for their schools and colleges over the coming months.”
