Cardiff Blues set to go head-to-head with Glamorgan Cricket

19th June 2017

Cardiff Blues staff will turn their attention from the rugby field to the running track, as they prepare to take on Glamorgan Cricket in the Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon Corporate Challenge.

Over 25,000 runners are expected to take part in the race on October 1, with the team of five representing Cardiff Blues running in support of the #StayStrongForOws charity.

Helen Davies, Cardiff Blues player and family liaison manager, said: “This year’s Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon Corporate Challenge gives us the perfect opportunity to continue our support for the #StayStrongForOws campaign, while setting ourselves a real challenge amongst our staff.

“We can’t wait to challenge ourselves against firms from across Wales, including our sporting rivals over at Glamorgan Cricket. We’ll be training hard ahead of October 1st, and we would love to see other runners get behind Owen, whose bravery will be inspiring us all at Cardiff Blues.”

Glamorgan chief executive Hugh Morris said: “We’re delighted to be taking part in an event synonymous with Cardiff alongside another of the city’s most iconic sporting brands. Our team will be out to become the fastest firm in Wales on race day, and we would encourage other companies to get involved.

“Running in-front of around 50,000 supporters and the masses watching on television gives us a fantastic opportunity to showcase our brand. And we can’t wait to be a part of the biggest and best Cardiff Half Marathon yet.”

Run 4 Wales, the events company behind Cardiff Half Marathon, is calling on other Welsh businesses to take on the corporate challenge and join thousands of runners at Wales’ flagship mass participation event.

The Cardiff Half corporate challenge is a great team building opportunity and fantastic vehicle for staff to fundraise for a charity close to their heart.

Companies of all sizes can get involved. Teams of five people or more can enter, with the fastest five times from each team registering. The fastest average team time wins.
