Head Coach Danny Wilson has revealed how a session with his former club, English Championship high fliers Bristol Rugby, has helped raise the intensity levels in preparation for the Connacht clash.
Wilson admits Cardiff Blues have altered preparations this week ahead of the big Guinness PRO12 home clash with the league leaders at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.
And he hopes a competitive training session with Bristol at the training base at The Vale will aid the team come Friday evening.
He said: “We have done things a little differently this week in preparation. We spent Monday away from rugby and together in a team building situation as it was a recovery day. We got away from the routine of the training centre.
“We then had a really tough day and trained against Bristol in a competitive session as we work towards that game on Friday night.
“We are building a slightly different approach to the week that we hope it will give us some gains and benefits.
“Sometimes when you train against each other every week it can become stale, but by bringing in a different opposition and team that you don’t know, it gives you a new stimulus and raises intensity.
“We trained against Bath in pre-season and this week we invited Bristol over, a team I clearly know very well. We thank them for visiting us in Cardiff and the fantastic efforts they put in.”
