Blues prepare for stern Scots test

1st October 2013

Director of Rugby Phil Davies has warned his Cardiff Blues to prepare for a stern physical test when they face Edinburgh Rugby in the RaboDirect PRO12 at the Arms Park on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 2.05pm).

Blues return home eager to build on a positive performance against defending champions in Dublin last week and make amends after a defeat to Zebre last time out at the Arms Park.

Davies revealed his starting line-up could be boosted by the return of prop Gethin Jenkins who is set to make his playing comeback.

However, he has left his team under no illusions as to the task they will face against a fired-up Edinburgh side determined to bounce back after home defeat to Scarlets last week.

“We can expect a big, tough, physical battle,” said Davies. “I have spoken to other coaches who have played them (Edinburgh) and we will need to match them physically.

“They also have a good kick and chase game and they get big forwards coming around the corner at you. We’ve got to make sure we front up and we’ve got to be well organised in the back field to deal with the kicking game.

“Gethin should be involved this week and he has trained well,” added Davies, who confirmed James Down would miss the game after a ligament strain suffered last week in Ireland.

“This week we are fit and we pick the strongest available team and we will do for the next three or four games because we need to get momentum and put in some good performances and get the results.”
