Cardiff Blues Ladies - sponsored by BT Sport - claimed a first piece of silverware this season as they won a tournament played between the four regions at Ystrad Mynach on Sunday.
The new-look Blues Ladies squad won all three games in the competition as they saw off the challenge of Dragons (17-0), Ospreys (7-5) and Scarlets (7-0) – conceding just one try in three games.
Blues Ladies were without several players on Wales duty for Dubai Sevens, but still showed a huge amount of talent and promise for the future to the delight of coach Nadine Griffiths.
She said: “It’s a new-look Blues Ladies squad this season with a lot of players who have not been involved before.
“It was a really encouraging result for us and all the players really want to perform for the badge. We had players like Samantha Galea, who has only played two or three games of rugby before, really impressive and that bodes well for the future as we look to build on this result.”
Blues Ladies are next in action on Sunday, December 28 when they face Ospreys at Llandarcy with a 3pm kick-off.
