Cardiff Blues have unveiled a new #StayStrongForOws kit for this season - and also teamed up with Aberdare RFC for a special and memorable launch event!
This season the Cardiff Blues will be wearing a striking Special Edition kit for a number of fixtures to show the region’s continued support for #StayStrongForOws and injured former player Owen Williams.
The #StayStrongForOws awareness and fundraising campaign was launched last year to support Owen after he suffered a serious spinal injury playing for Cardiff Blues in Singapore.
The rugby community and wider world has already helped raise over £200,000 for Owen, with support from our friends at the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust.
At Cardiff Blues we are determined to support Owen in the long-term – and recently teamed up with his first club Aberdare RFC to show our combined backing for the 2015/16 season.
This season both teams will wear the same colours – after Blues adopted the Aberdare RFC colours – to show our united stance.
And players from both Cardiff Blues and Aberdare RFC recently joined forces at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park to showcase the two designs side-by-side and with Owen Williams.
Sam Warburton, Cardiff Blues back row and Wales captain, was one of the first to try on the new kit alongside regional team-mates Gethin Jenkins, Tom James, Gareth Anscombe, Lloyd Williams, Macauley Cook, Kristian Dacey, Owen Jenkins, Lewis Jones, Rhys Patchell, Josh Navidi, Ellis Jenkins, Jarrad Hoeata, Josh Turnbull, Cory Allen, Gavin Evans and Manoa Vosawai.
He said: “Owen’s story, resilience and determination to meet every challenge head-on ever since is an inspiration. What happened brought everyone at Cardiff Blues together, made us stronger and Owen is always part of our team.
“Rugby fans from around the world have united as one for Owen since his life-changing injury and the #StayStrongForOws campaign has made a huge difference.
“We’ve now teamed up with his hometown club Aberdare to launch a Special Edition kit and this season we wear the same colours, carry the same message - we stand together for Owen.
“Every jersey we sell generates a donation to #StayStrongForOws – that means every jersey carries a message of support, every jersey makes a huge difference.”
