Adams thrilled with Rugby World Cup debut try

Josh Adams admits he was thrilled to cross the whitewash for a try on his Rugby World Cup debut, as he starred in Wales’ tournament opener against Georgia on Monday.

The Cardiff Blues wing, who joined from Worcester Warriors during the summer, played his part in two of Wales’ six tries, and topped the attacking charts with five line breaks in an impressive outing.

Adams was pleased with his side’s attacking threat from set piece, but insists focus turns immediately to the Pool D clash against Australia in Tokyo on Sunday.

“It was really nice to go over for my first Rugby World Cup try,” said the wing.

“In the first half, our moves from set piece were breaking their defensive line, and the same move worked for Tips’ [Justin Tipuric] try and my try.

“Obviously we’re very happy to get a bonus point, which is great for us.

“We’re a little bit disappointed to concede two tries, because our focus during half time was to keep them to zero tries.

“But there’s something for us to build on as we go to face Australia in six days time.”
